It’s Favorite Friday!
Today, I am sharing my favorite room settings in our ‘Country / Cottage / Lodge‘ Style.
Country / Cottage is a style that gets its inspirational elements from all over the world, including English Country, French Country, Early American, Farmhouse and Cottage styles.
Lodge is a style that gets its inspiration from more remote areas such as mountains and the country side, or rivers and lakes that are less inhabited. It is often influenced by Western, Southwestern, Log Cabin and Alpine Lodge styles.

Last week, my roommate moved out of the apartment we shared, which means that I lost about half the furniture I was using. It wasn’t earth-shatteringly disappointing, but it was kind of a bummer when I made breakfast the first day by myself and I had no table at which to eat. So over the weekend, I made it my number one priority to find myself a new dining table.
It didn’t take me long to find what I wanted. I needed something smaller, so it would fit in the combined dining/living space, and I needed it to have a fairly flexible style so that it would flow with various apartment or home designs. The Amisco Kai Wood Top Dining Table fit the bill exactly, from design to price. I was even able to choose the finishes and the shape of the table top. Once I combine it with the rummage-sale chairs that I’m repainting, I can finally stop eating breakfast on my couch and enjoy it at my new Amisco dining table.
A very good friend of mine is getting married next summer. So, as a dutiful companion and guest, I checked out her registry over the weekend to see what my options were for a gift. She had most of the usual items on it — new dishes, nice wine glasses, color-coordinated bathroom linens. But the item that really stood out to me was the jewelry-storage mirror. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one on a registry, and typically when I think of mirrors with storage, they’re usually medicine cabinets.
I told her that I thought it was a really neat choice, and she just gushed about this mirror for a solid ten minutes. Apparently it’s one of her favorite items on her registry, so I went back to the site and bought it. If it makes her that happy, it’s worth the money. And who knows, maybe I’ll like it enough to buy one for myself!
One of my favorite brands on FurnitureCrate is Lexington. They make such an interesting variety of high-quality, upscale furniture, and it’s all gorgeous. If I had an unlimited amount of funds for decorating my house, I would furnish the entire place with Lexington — that’s how much I love it. There’s so much care and detail put into each piece, and the rich finishes and sophisticated veneers add a sense of depth that you can’t find in most furniture.
Recently, we began selling one of Lexington’s newest collections: Carrera. This is a gorgeous line that really speaks to contemporary tastes. Even though it doesn’t have the same kind of woodworking detail as some of their other collections, the sleek, straight lines and the even tone of the Carbon Gray finish help each piece make a statement in your home. This is the modern furniture that we’ve all been waiting for.
Out of everyone I knew growing up, I am the only one who moved back to the Metro Detroit area after college. This means that instead of hanging out with my friends on the weekends, I often hang out with their parents instead. So last weekend, I went furniture shopping with Christine’s parents. They are pretty good about not taking anything seriously, so we spent most of the time in the store making fun of the ridiculous display of ugly vases. The real reason they were there was to look for a new sectional.
See, I think their current sectional is pretty great, and I told them so. They have a Corsario Leather Sectional, which has been in their living room for years, and I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve spent the night on that sectional. It’s super comfortable, and it’s still in really good shape. If I had room for it in my apartment, I probably would have done my best to actually help them find a new sectional so that I could take the Corsario for myself.
After much wheedling and convincing, I got them to see my side. While they wanted to change up the look of their living room, they had to admit that other than that, there was no real reason to get a different sectional. So even though none of my friends are nearby, at least my favorite sectional still is.

My favorite part of the weekend is Saturday morning. I like to get up and make myself a giant pot of coffee, and then I curl up in my favorite armchair and read. My coffee mug is too hot, so I always keep it next to me on my favorite black corner table. The table is small enough to fit in my apartment, yet it still easily supports a lamp and a large coffee mug. I know that I could use a square or a round end table, but I like the look of the corner table best. Plus, I think it’s more versatile, since I can easily rearrange my furniture and put it in a corner, where I think it would look great as an accent piece. Plus, it has a drawer in the front. I like to store my coasters and spare bookmarks there so that they stay safe from my cat, who likes my armchair almost as much as I do. I think it’s perfect for any home, because you can use it however you want.
